Segment 1

AAA Driver Education strives to create the best, safest drivers.

  • Students are trained by certified AAA instructors
  • Classroom instruction is 24 hours of interactive learning using the AAA How to Drive curriculum
  • Our classroom instruction encourages discussion and features application exercises distributed throughout the course to enhance learning effectiveness and maintain student engagement
  • Students receive a student workbook to use during class
  • Classroom size is limited to small groups

AAA Driver Education offers two options for new drivers taking segment 1, the on-road instruction is in addition to the classroom session.

  • Basic on-road instruction           
  • Six hours of training plus four hours of observation
  • Premium on-road instruction (recommended)
  • Eight hours of training plus four hours of observation

Segment 2

This six-hour course targets high risk driving topics such as impaired, drowsy, and distracted driving.

To be eligible, teens must have:

Held their Level 1 License for at least three consecutive months

Have 30+ hours of driving practice, with at least two hours at night

If your teen took segment 1 with AAA Driver Training and the parent/guardian is a AAA Member, upon successful course completion, your teen will receive a complimentary one-year AAA Associate Membership.

How to Drive Online: Supplemental Course

Learn from the leader in driver education. How to Drive Online is AAA’s comprehensive driver education course for new drivers that is both fun and educational. Built on AAA’s decades of respected driver education expertise. This supplemental 25-hour course aims to ensure that safe driving habits are developed and maintained for life.

StartSmart

StartSmart is an online webinar for parents of teens who are – or soon will be learning to drive. This two-hour online course prepares parents to navigate their teen’s learning-to-drive experience. This course demonstrates how to reinforce what your teen is learning in driver education and how to maximize the practice driving that you’ll do with them. AAA Foundation for Traffic Safety research is highlighted throughout this course.
