Each September, Edgerton, Wisconsin, heats up — literally — for one of the state’s most flavorful events: Chilimania. This year, the beloved event returns Sept. 5-6, bringing together a weekend of chili, salsa, music, and community.
A 35-year tradition, Chilimania is home to the Wisconsin State Championship CASI-Sanctioned Chili Cook-Off, drawing seasoned chiliheads and newcomers alike. Public chili tasting starts at 3 p.m. on Saturday — grab a tasting kit (cup, spoon, and ballot) and vote for your favorite in the People’s Choice competition. Saturday also features a Traditional Chili Contest and a Salsa Contest — so whether you prefer smoky heat, slow-building spice, or sweet and tangy bites, there’s something on the menu for you.
For those who like a little kick in their cup, the Best Bloody Mary Contest is a crowd favorite. Sample creative spins on the classic cocktail as competitors turn up the heat with garnishes and bold flavors.
Meanwhile, live bands take the stage Friday night and play through Saturday, offering the perfect backdrop to sip, taste, and soak in the atmosphere. Whether you’re dancing or just tapping your foot while you enjoy something hot from a nearby booth, the music keeps things simmering.
But it’s not just about what’s in the bowl. More than a food and music festival, Chilimania is powered by purpose. The charity event raises funds to support local education initiatives and the Edgerton business community. Since its inception in 1990, Chilimania has raised over $200,000 in donations.
